The Formation World Tour (FTW) is Beyoncé’s 7th major tour, promoting her recently-released 6th studio album, “Lemonade”. The concert follows a story line similar to “Lemonade”, and the choreography, costumes, set, and music electrify and empower the audience with each belting note and flashing light.
2. The MONOLITH
Centered at the head of the main stage (yes, I said main… there are TWO stages) The Formation Tour features a 60-foot (7-story) LED cube called a ‘monolith’. Opening the show with an electrifying entry, the giant entity immediately draws the audience in for an unforgettable experience. The monolith functions as a screen, projecting videos and live feed of Beyoncé and her 20 backup dancers, rotates 360°, shoots flames, and suspends acrobats during parts of the show. Each rotation of the larger-than-life machine signifies a new chapter in the Lemonade story, and even if you’re sitting in the nosebleeds, you won’t be missing any of the action— the monolith made me feel like I was part of the show.
3. The SPECTACLE
The Formation World Tour is MASSIVE. The production is so big that it won’t even fit in inside an arena—only major football and soccer stadiums are hosting FWT on it’s 5-month journey across North America and Europe. Each venue currently on the list of stops has the capacity to host over 60K audience members and tickets are selling fast. So don't worry. It’s a great big party. Earlier I mentioned two stages.. yup. One even features a 2,000 gallon pool that takes 10 minutes to fill. You’ll just have to see that to believe it. Oh, and connecting them?.. a moving runway so Bey and company can get their freakum dresses on and strut their stuff.
4. The FASHION
Speaking of freakum dress, the tour features custom couture from the biggest names in the industry: Gucci, Balmain, Givenchy, and Cavalli to name a few. The theme of the fashion in FORMATION evokes a classic southern style and Beyoncé makes over nine costume changes through the course of the 2-hour production.
Beyoncé is a revolution. Her iconic and subtle charm has awed and inspired audiences for over 20 years. As an audience member, you will feel Beyoncé’s true intent of Formation when you are experiencing FWT. Formation is about coming together and connecting through similarities while understanding and embracing differences. My fellow audience members were people from all walks of life. Gay, straight, African-American, Latino, tall, short.. and all there to celebrate one thing: togetherness. Bey is mogul, a brand, an inspiration to all colors, shapes, and sizes of people. She has touched the hearts of billions around the world and delivers a transcending and empowering message of strength and hope to those willing to hear her. Get in Formation.
